This Section will perform the following activities:-
- Carry out chemical analysis of food, drugs and their raw materials, herbal medicine, condiments and spices;
- Develop, validate and review analytical methods of sampling and chemical analysis of food, drugs and their raw materials, herbal medicine, condiments and spices;
- Prepare, implement and review of the Standard Operating Procedures for chemical laboratory analysis of food, drugs and their raw materials, herbal medicine, condiments and spices;
- Conduct applied research on matters related to food and drugs laboratory activities;
- Develop, implement and review of the food and drugs laboratory Quality Manual for accreditation purposes;
- Participate in Proficiency Testing (PT) Schemes to facilitate accreditation of the food and drugs laboratory analytical methods;
- Interpret and review analytical results and prepare reports of food and drugs laboratory results for use in the court of law or elsewhere;
- Prepare technical specifications for purchase of food and drugs laboratory instruments, reference culture media, chemicals and reagents, reference books and consumables;
- Provide scientific advice and advisory services on matters related to food and drugs laboratory activities;
- Conduct emergency inspection, sampling and chemical laboratory analysis of food, drugs and their raw materials and herbal medicine on matters of national or public interest; and
- Assess the Food and Drugs Laboratory Section risk analysis and implement mitigation measures accordingly.
This Section will be led by a Manager.
